Consultant Psychiatrist to Older People Service
(Full time, 10PAs)
Applications are invited for a whole time or maximum part time Consultant post in Old Age Psychiatry, covering inpatient work to Dove Ward, Hounslow Service Delivery Unit. Services at Hounslow are delivered through a Unit overarching CAMHS, Adults and Older Persons Services for the borough together with the Cassel Hospital. This post is within the Older Persons care group. The post-holder will provide medical leadership to the Dove Ward at Lakeside Mental Health Unit. The post-holder will join a collaborative complement of 3 Consultants in the Older Persons Care Group and 8 Consultants in the Adult Care Group and 21 Consultants across the SDU. The services are in a full functional split with Inpatient, 4 Community, Early Intervention and Assertive outreach teams fully operational. The Hounslow PCT have made a significant 2 year investment in the service dedicated to enhancing the experience of patients with psychiatric needs attending the Accident and Emergency department at West Middlesex University Hospital.
Our services are “paper-light” and use a computer based record system (RiO) for which training will be given. There will also be an expectation of involvement in the development of other service guidelines and policies, clinical audit and clinical governance.
Applicants should be committed, versatile and look forward to working with the teams to bring patterns of practice in line with New Ways of Working for Consultant Psychiatrists in the NHS. The borough has a particularly diverse and relatively young population. Patterns of morbidity share some characteristics of the urban with some of the suburban.
Applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent higher qualifications, must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT with good communication skills and a commitment to multidisciplinary and multi-agency working.
