Mental Health Nurse

Rate: $ 49 to $ 69 K (Permanent+Contract) - AUD per annum
We are currently recruiting for RMNs to work within a 135 bed forensic hospital based in Sydney.

Our client strives to provide high quality clinically appropriate services, informed by best practice and applied research. They view Mental Health care as an essential part of community care as whole by facilitating the continuity of care to all those concerned. They wish to develop an organisational culture that supports service delivery and meets all nursing standards set by ANMC.

The Hospital is a high security environment for males, females and adolescents which provides specialist care for mentally disordered offenders or those at risk of offending. Patients include people who have been found to be not guilty due to reasons of mental illness, those unfit to plea, and those transferred from the Department of Corrective Services (DCS) and Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) under the NSW Mental Health Act 2007.


Day to day duties will include:
Mental/ basic physical health care requirements of patients.
Integrate therapeutic goals with security requirements through appraisal of
organisational processes and nurse-patient relationships.
Maintain the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors.
Coordinating and initiating health care for patients by undertaking mental health, risk
and management and alcohol and other drug assessments.
Develop comprehensive nursing management plans and make appropriate referrals to relevant services.
Initiation of appropriate treatment, management and referral in emergency situations and providing individualised mental health care.
Support / supervision of Endorsed Enrolled Nurses, new graduate nurses and nursing students.

SELECTION CRITERIA
• List A Registered Nurse, with the NSW Nurses and Midwives Board or be eligiable to do so.
• Two years post graduation/ qualification experience.
• Formal qualification in mental health, or willingness to undertake same.
• Sound knowledge of mental health nursing theory and practice.
• Understanding of relevant NSW Mental Health Legislation and legal frameworks
• Effective skills, interest and experience in multidisciplinary team work.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills including verbal and written
reporting.
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement, self-learning and development.
• Capacity to manage and relate to forensic mental health patients in a non-judgemental
and compassionate manner.
• All positions will be required to work a seven day rotating roster.
